Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives are increasingly becoming a priority for organizations worldwide. With growing pressure from stakeholders, investors, and consumers to operate responsibly, companies that integrate ESG into their operations are not only contributing to a better future but are also gaining a competitive edge. In fact, companies with strong ESG credentials have been shown to outperform the market by 2.5x over the long term.
The Indian GCC's should be in the forefront of driving BRSR compliance, even if the reporting needs are 2 - 3 years later in the horizon. GCC's supporting their foreign parent organizations are in a unique position to comply with CSRD and GRI norms and translate that to local compliance requirements.
ESG initiatives focus on creating sustainable business practices that prioritize environmental protection, social responsibility, and transparent governance. This involves everything from reducing carbon footprints to promoting diversity and ethical business practices. For GCCs, embracing ESG means ensuring their operations align with global sustainability standards, benefiting both the organization and the planet.
GCCs can start by conducting an ESG audit to assess their current impact on the environment and society. From there, they can implement strategies to reduce their environmental footprint—such as investing in energy-efficient infrastructure, reducing waste, and adopting renewable energy sources. On the social front, improving employee well-being, ensuring ethical labor practices, and supporting local communities are key areas of focus.
Governance initiatives include promoting transparency, ethical leadership, and strong corporate governance frameworks. Reporting on ESG performance not only builds trust with stakeholders but also provides a blueprint for continuous improvement. By embedding sustainability into the core of their operations, GCCs can align with global trends while positioning themselves as leaders in responsible business practices.
"Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm. It's about doing more good." – Jochen Zeitz
