The recent COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the way our businesses operate today. No one would have imagined that we will adopt technology so easily to do a lot of business interactions. These interactions are cutting across different industry and different functions and making ‘doing business’ much easier and encouraging inclusivity.

However, I feel there are three tweaks which needs to be done in the operating models to reap the benefits:

  1. Alternate workforce – let’s look beyond the traditional pool of 18 – 60 years working bracket. We should encourage participation for all ‘working able’ interested individual. This would include retired employees, Tier 2 and 3 towns and neuro-diverse population. We should encourage faster absorption of army veterans to join the corporate world. This is easier said than done. I feel the biggest change management needs to be done at an individual level. Organizations have matured to encourage a diverse work force but we can progress faster if the adoption is driven by business leaders.

  2. Tech savvy workforce -  is opt repeated phrase. However there is no structured training guidance for aspirants. Are we expecting all accountants to become coders? The answer is probably not, but the counseling to choose the right course based on aspiration and capability needs to be rolled out immediately. If we expect for a non techie to get a grasp of AI in six months and join workshops then we are up for disappointment.

  3. Alliances – are saving a lot of investments and ‘innovation’ challenges for the corporate world, and even for non-profits. Organizations are frequently asking the question of whether to build a new solution or get into an alliance. However, the majority of products are focused on alliances with established players. We are ignoring the mid-market and SMB’s. I feel this is an untapped market and the ‘match making’ of our young techies with the ‘tech hungry’ SMB is just waiting to happen.
